Pico-MBES
The Pico-MBES 120SF is a low cost, miniature CHIRP FM multibeam echosounder (MBES) that has been customised to fit inside the transducer well of the EchoBoat, a vessel designed to conduct multibeam surveys in areas where conventional boat surveys are not feasible, e.g. in very shallow or remote waters.
The Pico-MBES features rugged, fully encapsulated transducers and an aluminium topside with optional integrated Applanix INS. GNSS and IMU connect to the sonar so no need for a rack mount. All beamforming and digital signal processing is performed within the sonar, allowing a direct connection from the sonar to a computer via Ethernet or Android smartphone/tablet via wi-fi.
Android and Windows GUIs are provided for real-time display and recording, and the Android app features a real-time 3D point cloud allowing bathymetric data to be acquired using a tablet or smartphone in an Aquapac. The Pico-MBES interfaces directly with the EchoBoat’s onboard industrial PC, and from a shore laptop using Remote Desktop Connection, the user can access the onboard PC via a wi-fi bridge to control sonar settings, data logging, and the EchoBoat’s AutoNav autonomous mission planner.
